Forklift Safety

110,000 forklift accidents per year. Let that number sink into your head a little bit. Okay, now that you are over the initial shock the question becomes what can we do to lower that number drastically.  110,000 forklift accidents per year | SHD Logistics News.

The number one, most important role you can play if a manager will be to make sure all of your operators are properly trained. The flip side to that is that if you are an operator ensuring you do not operate equipment you are not trained on. That is not only for your safety but everyone’s safety in the facility.

There is not a price that can be put on safety training when it comes to operating your forklift. Did you know that $135 million of immediate costs are incurred due to forklift accidents each year but the real cost comes in when approximately every 3 days, someone in the US is killed in a forklift related accident.

FSI offers both operator training and train the trainer courses. We provide you with all of the materials that you will need to be OSHA compliant. We can come to your facility or you can come to ours!!

FSI’s Gary Schield Sales Achievement 2013

Gary Schield is our Territory Manager for Davidson County/Nashville at our corporate headquarters. This past year Gary hit a milestone with Forklift Systems when he sold over $2 million in equipment for the 2013 year.

Gary has been with FSI for the past 8 years and in the material handling industry since 1991. When asked what he enjoys the most about the material handling industry Gary said “helping people solve problems”. With over 2 million dollars in sales I would say Gary knows a thing or two about solving our customer’s problems.

In Gary’s spare time he enjoys working on and driving his 1961 Porsche 356B. Some of his other interests include listening to vinyl records on his sound system and working around his house.

Everyone at Forklift Systems congratulates Gary on a great year!

11 New Safety Violations Found at Previously Cited Louisiana Facility

I come across these types of articles everyday. The cost of training a forklift operator is very minimal when comparing the amount of fines that will be levied against a company when found not doing the right thing. This does not take into account if someone’s life is taken because of an avoidable accident.

Forklift rodeo adds challenge – Longview News-Journal: Local News

A forklift can be a very difficult piece of machinery to operate. Especially in some of the environments in which to operate them! This is a pretty cool article on the 2nd annual forklift rodeo. Operators come from some diverse places to compete for who the best forklift driver is. I love the new challenge they added this year with the basketball. What a creative and fun idea!

Come check out the article and Youtube video showing these guys in action. Some very experienced and skilled operators in this group!

How to Safely operate a forklift truck |

There are a lot of reasons to operate a forklift safely. Number one being so you make it back home to your family safe at the end of the day.

OSHA is cracking down as well on forklift drivers who are not properly certified. These fines can reach into the thousands of dollars for each person cited. That kind of money can add up very quickly!

Jobs report: Economy added 113K jobs in January – CBS News

Well there is good news and bad news. The good news first…the economy added 113K jobs for the month of January. The bad news that is below the average for the year 2013. As stated in the article the jobs added each month has been in decline for the last three.

There is another bright spot though. The unemployment rate dropped to 6.6% which is the lowest since October 2008.

I still feel like the economy is on the way back up and we will look back at this as a blip on the radar. How is the health for your current industry? I would like to hear your thoughts on where we are at and which way do you think we are heading?

2014 New Year, New Ideas, New Hope

With the coming of the New Year I always like to reflect on what went right the previous year, what went wrong and where can I improve as a person and an employee. I believe the New Year can bring change and a chance to succeed beyond our wildest imaginations.

In looking back at 2013 I realized how blessed of a year I had and FSI as a company. This would not have been possible without all of our loyal customers and all of our new customers we welcomed to the family this year. One of FSI’s guiding principles is “We succeed when our customers succeed”. We witnessed this year a lot of our customers succeeding!

I hope that 2014 will be a very successful year for you! What is it about the New Year that you love? What do you hope for the coming 2014 calendar? Where would you like to be come December 31, 2014?
